Albanian, in the Tosk dialect, is the official language of Albania.
It is also one of the official languages of Kosovo, and of the
Republic of Macedonia.There are approximately 5 million speakers of
Albanian.
The Albanians call their language shqip and their country Shqipéria.
There are two distinct dialects—Tosk, spoken in the south, and Cheg,
spoken in the north.
The official and spoken literary dialect is Standard Albanian . The
two Albanian dialects spoken in Italy and Greece are of the Tosk
variety, and are partially intelligible to this dialect as spoken in
the extreme south of Albania.
